Ceiling fan light kit installation blue wire. In most cases you will be attaching wires that are the same color together. Secure these wires together with a yellow or red wire connector. This should be done by simply lining up the two matching wires so that they are parallel and screwing a wire nut on the end like you would a lid on a bottle. The white wire is the neutral for the fixture and the green is the ground.

The black wire from the ceiling fan is the hot wire that runs the motor and turns the fan blades. Some have a black wire with a white stripe down the side rather than the blue wire. Connect the light s wires to the fan s wires with wire nuts. The ceiling fan motor does not have a ground wire. It s held in by three screws on the side of the housing. Not all ceiling fans have a black white blue and green wire.

The white wire is neutral and completes the fan circuit. Once the cover plate is removed it provides a connection for the light kit. This is true of most hunter and harbor breeze ceiling fans found at your local home store. Connect the white wires neutral wires from your fan and ceiling together.

Connect the black wires together. The wire colors in a basic fan light kit are typically black blue white and green.

Lastly connect the blue wires together or the blue wire to the black wire for lights. With these wiring connections the ceiling light can be operated from the ceiling fan pull chain or the wall switch.
