Vcr Keeps Turning Off

When i start play a first movie scene shows but within seconds play stops the vcr shuts itself off.
Vcr keeps turning off. At minimum it has 2 3 issues between shutting off and eating tapes. The remote could have a stuck button causing the rewind. You have to coax a tape in then it will play for 6 seconds and turn off. It sounds as if it is locked in auto rewind and shutoff which is what happens if you allow a tape to run out.
That vcr is not worth repairing and is probably not reparable anyway. Odds are it was never serviced never cleaned and now it s too late. Odds are components inside have dried up gotten brittle. When hitting the standby button to reactivate it it ejects the tape and makes the same noise.
I have looked inside but can t identify the source of the problem. The vcr is in shutdown as there is a drive problem. When powering on the vcr portion makes a sickening grinding sound whether or not there is a tape in it. Gravity has also taken a toll severe alignment issues.
Remove the batteries from the remote power off the vcr and check. After tape is inserted in vcr the vcr automatically turns on normal. Sylvania tv vcr combo keeps shutting off after being on for about 20 seconds it has sound but keeps shutting off.
