Blender Normal Map Artifacts
Horrible artifacts when baking normal maps in blender read 2460 times nthnrivera i am having issues with using normal maps in substance designer regardless of what settings i use i always get horrible artifacts such this.
Blender normal map artifacts. While the results seem to be quite impressive i get some artifacts mostly on flat surfaces which are seemingly caused by high poly topology. I do not see a problem on the normal map. Who can say what normal really is anyway. Normal maps with the glass or refraction shaders in cycles are broken.
Bump mapping works fine but the normal map node breaks these shaders making. I m using blender to model the high and low poly as well as baking normal and ao maps. I haven t baked anything other than planes with details like floating geometry etc. I decided to try out blender 2 8 bevel shader for low poly normal baking.
I ve been having trouble from the beginning to make normal map bakes work especially while dealing with hard surface meshes it usually results in crappy normals and many times even getting them to bake in substance painter still gets me weird artifacts on the low poly mesh such as the ones below. Well actually in this context probably a mathematician could easily tell us. The visual artifacts above do not appear in blender but they show up when i export to fbx and then upload to sketchfab. I ve got problems with blender normal bake.
I m trying to bake a set of high res sculpted teeth to a low poly model of the teeth. Hi aidy burrows here bump map creation can itself be a bumpy ride and as for normal maps. I watch this thats look like fix the problem but not for me i dont have mirror prob. In the normal map i see some spots that stay purple the normal map doesn t bake to this piece of the map.
This is a long standing known bug in blender. I think it has something to do with the bake settings but i need some help how to control them. The above sketchfab screenshots are all with the flip green y checkbox unchecked and if i check that box then some areas look good but there are still issues. If you happen to be new to the baking process in blender see the end of the article problem 5 for tips on generating a simple normal bump map from both a shader and another object.
